The 2015 Volt with a 20kWhr battery and 50 mile all-electric range sounds fantastic. If GM has also developed a more efficient 1.2 liter range extender ICE that can achieve 50 mpg. once the battery is depleted, they will have a Tesla killer. If GM can keep the price down in the mid $30K region (before $7.5K government subsidy), the second generation Volt should have mass appeal and be a top seller.

I have a 2012 volt, 17500 miles with a lifetime 182 mpg. The battery range runs between 37 and 42 miles, gas close to 40 mpg. The only complaint would be for people over 6′ they need more drivers room so that we can go back to the heel to toe for brake and gas. A lot of young people are well over 6′ they are not little short people just using the car to run to the market. That sun roof should also be a solar roof that could pick up a few extra miles. I will be trading for a 15 as soon as they come out. Hope they add the solar roof right at the start.

  • I would like to get on the list for the 2015 Volt and receive updated information as to when I may purchase/lease such car.

  • john meschede says:

why not use the battery technology of the EV1 GM produced in the early 1990s? A 200 mile range with no gas powered generator. A sticker price under 30K. Sounds like the Volt is a poor excuse for an electric car produced by a GM executive heavily invested in the oil market.

  • Martin says:

I own a small car which has 1.6 motor..The tank capacity is 40 ltrs. Highway I get 400k.m and mix hwyty I get only 320k.m on one tank….If any electric car that gives this minimum compared to 1.6 motor and 40 ltr tank with 320 k.m then that car will be successful….Tesla E model has promised 200 miles/ 350 k.m plus on one single charge. If Volt can come with 300k.m per charge then they will have a great advantage over Tesla due to 1.2 gas motor.
